WGU D188 TASK 2 THE COLLABORATIVE LEADER | ACCURATE AND VERIFIED | 2026 UPDATE

, A. A curricular or instructional need within my district is a supplemental mathematics
curriculum supporting state standards. Although we already have a school-wide
curriculum, our mathematics scores are low throughout the district.
1. The existing data that I used to help identify the need was the results of our state
mathematics testing. I analyzed data from the last few years and it showed consistent
below average scores for our school. This was evident across all grade levels. When
picking apart the scores of my students, I can see that the main problem is the lack of
foundational mathematic skills. They have not retained the basic principles of addition,
subtraction, multiplication, and division that they need to succeed in 5th-grade math.
2. One example of how addressing this need will improve school effectiveness is the
improvement we will see in student outcomes. Students will not be able to succeed in
mathematics if they have not retained the basic skills. By implementing a
supplemental curriculum like iReady, the outcomes will improve. Students will start
the program in kindergarten and it will identify the lacking skills and adjust
instruction. This will allow students to start each year at their personal knowledge
level and then build up to the desired outcomes for their grade level. The second
example of how addressing this need will improve school effectiveness is by closing
district-wide learning gaps to set the district up for success. Our school report card sent
out by the state each year has been a C. We are failing as a district and many families
are choosing to open-enroll their children into a district with a better grade. With the
iReady program implementation, our school state report card should rise to at least a B
grade and be more enticing to families.
