Substance Disorder/ Addictive Disorders
● Schedule 1 drugs: no medical use/ highly abused
- Herion
- LSD
● Schedule 2 drugs: RX order only/ highly abused and dangerous
- Methadone
- Meperidine (demerol)
- Methylphenidate (ritalin)
● Schedule 3 drugs: RX order only/ low potential for misuse
- Testosterone
- Tylenol w codeine
- Buprenorphine (suboxone)
● Schedule 4 drugs: low risk drugs
- Benzodiazepines (atitivan etc)
● Schedule 5 drugs: OTC medications
- atropine/diphenoxylate (lomotil)
- Guaifenestine
- Codeine (robitussin)
Caffeine
● Not official use disorder but can result in intoxication and withdrawal
● Tx: PO/IV hydration, gastric lavage, beta blockers
● Vasopressors to control HR&BP
Cannabis
● No medical tx, only abstinence
● Antianxiety meds may be used for short term relief
Hallucinogens
● Talk patient down
● Physical restraints may be needed (last resort)
● Antipsychotics: haloperidol (haldol)
● Benzos: diazepam (valium)
PCP Intoxication (type of hallucinogen)
● Ex: shrooms, LSD, phencyclidine (PCP), ketamine
● Cannot be talked down
● Restrains may need to be required
● Benzos via IV/IM
● Mechanical coolings
