The Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act, 1949
Marriages between the different races of South Africa (White / Coloured / Indian / Black) -
as defined by the National Party - are banned.
The Immorality Act, 1950
An example of petty apartheid, sexual relationships between different races were now
illegal, and remained illegal until 1985, meaning police could exercise their right to humiliate
people by smashing down bedroom doors in the middle of the night to arrest lovers.
