Allama Muhammad Iqbal — Poet of the East
Introduction
Good morning respected teacher and my dear fellows.
Today, I am going to give a presentation on one of the greatest personalities of the Muslim
world, Allama Muhammad Iqbal. He was a great poet, philosopher, thinker, and visionary leader.
He is known as the “Poet of the East.”
Early Life and Education
Allama Iqbal was born on 9 November 1877 in Sialkot. He received his early education in Sialkot
and later went to Lahore for higher studies. He studied philosophy, English literature, and
Arabic at Government College Lahore. After completing his studies, he travelled to Europe for
higher education. He obtained a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Munich.
Literary Contributions
Iqbal was a great literary figure. He wrote poetry in both Urdu and Persian. His famous books
include Bang-e-Dra, Bal-e-Jibril, Zarb-e-Kalim, and Asrar-e-Khudi. His poetry is full of powerful
ideas about faith, courage, self-respect, hard work, and hope.
Philosophy of Khudi
One of the most important concepts in Iqbal's philosophy is “Khudi.” It means developing self-
confidence, self-respect, and a strong personality. Iqbal wanted Muslims, especially young
people, to recognize their abilities and become strong through knowledge, discipline, faith, and
determination.
Political Vision
Allama Iqbal was also an important political thinker. He understood the difficulties faced by
Muslims in the Indian subcontinent. In his famous Allahabad Address of 1930, he presented his
vision for a separate political future for the Muslims of the subcontinent. His ideas later became
an important source of inspiration for the Pakistan Movement.
Message for Youth
Iqbal had a special message for young people. He wanted them to dream big, seek knowledge,
face challenges bravely, and contribute positively to society. His poetry continues to motivate
students and young people even today.
