Designs Test Questions and Answers.
Fewer participants are needed - Answer Strength
This is an advantage of single-subject design. Often, due to the unique behaviors that are being
addressed in behavior-analytic studies, large numbers of participants cannot be recruited to
participate. Therefore, an experiment that allows one to draw conclusions about the
effectiveness of an intervention without requiring large groups of participants is ideal.
Generality of findings - Answer Limitation
This is a limitation of single-subject design. With less participants, we rely on more replication to
show generalization. If treatments have effects on one subject, is it also going to work on other
subjects who are similar?
Single-Subject
Individualization of treatment - Answer Strength
This is an advantage of single-subject design. Specific needs of individuals are met, rather than
looking at overall effectiveness in a large group.
Irreversibility or sequence effects - Answer Limitation
This is a limitation of single-subject design. Subjects may experience sequence effects due to
the order of interventions or irreversibility due to the nature of interventions.
Subjects serve as their own control - Answer Strength
This is an advantage of single-subject design. All subjects receive intervention.
Variability - Answer Limitation
This is a limitation of single-subject design. We cannot account for all confounds. This can cause
some variability.
Visual analysis - Answer Strength
This is an advantage of single-subject design. You are not only looking at averages of results.
Visual analysis allows us to see the variability or stability of an individual's findings.
Allows for generality and applicability; comparison based on average findings - Answer
