QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE OF WITNESS
I did my A-levels at Hereford sixth form college where I got my Foundation diploma in Forensic
investigation, Level 3 diploma in criminology, and an A-level in psychology.
I then went to get my Bachelor of Science degree with honours in Forensic Science, and later got a
master’s degree in forensic science as well.
I began working as a forensic scientist at Ascertain Forensics after university and have been working there
for 7 years analysing evidence.

PURPOSE OF THE EXAMINATION
Hair:
- Exhibit number: ML009a-
Microscopy was done to identify key characteristics in the hair to be compared to the suspects. Through this
we can also determine if the hair is from a human or an animal. If the hair is then found to be human, we can
then use this to determine if the hair sample matches one of the suspects.
Fingerprints:
- Exhibit number: JL007a-
Microscopy was used to identify primary and secondary characteristics on the print to then be compared
with the three suspects.
Shoe print:
- Exhibit number: MLD021a-
Examined the sole of the shoe to see where was worn down and more defined to see how the suspect
walked.
- Exhibit number: MLD020-
Can compare with the three suspects ink prints to see the different characteristics of where is more worn
down and more defined, as well as comparing it to the sole of the wellington boot to see if it was likely to be
the same person.
Handwriting:

To identify unique characteristics in the handwriting on the note so as it can then be compared with the
