Thomas 2004 article - what contributed to the need for health communication? -
ANS-The emergence of health as an important personal concern and the ascendancy of
healthcare as a major institution in the middle of the 20th century were major
contributing factors. As medicine became more scientific there was a *decline in the
quality of doctor-patient interaction*,the *rise of consumerism* led to ignorance of the
nature of health and illness, *discrimination in healthcare* led to communication
disparities in health status, health behavior and manner of treatment to those who
weren't well educated. Lastly, there was a *growing emphasis on prevention*, it was
noted that it played a greater role in the improvement of health status than treatment
could.

Know the Implications of health marketing on health communication - ANS-Health
communication can be thought of as a subdivision of marketing in some senses,
although there are many aspects to health communication they are not designed to
promote ideas. This rise led to the emergence of social marketing as an approach to
health communication.

Health belief model - ANS-Hypothesizes that health-related action depends on the
simultaneous occurrence of:
1. Self efficacy
2. Perceived barriers
3. Perceived benefits
