These cards put students inside realistic situations. Each role has a clear goal, but the conversation
should not be memorised. Encourage students to react naturally, ask questions and negotiate a
solution.

THE ROLE-PLAY ROUTINE
1 READ Give each student their role and goal.
2 PREPARE Allow 1–2 minutes to choose useful words and ideas.
3 ROLE-PLAY Students speak without reading a full script.
4 SWITCH Swap roles and repeat with a different approach.
5 REFLECT Discuss which phrases helped solve the situation.
USEFUL ROLE-PLAY LANGUAGE
Starting: “Hi, I'm calling because…” • “I'd like to ask about…”
Clarifying: “Could you explain that?” • “What do you mean by…?”
Suggesting: “How about…?” • “Maybe we could…”
Negotiating: “Would you be willing to…?” • “Could we meet halfway?”
Closing: “That sounds fair.” • “So, we've agreed to…”
