How to Use This Guide
This study guide is organized into eight content domains that mirror the core competencies tested on the Relias
Dysrhythmia Basic A assessment: sinus rhythms, premature atrial contractions, premature ventricular
contractions, atrial fibrillation and flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, AV heart blocks, ventricular rhythms,
and general ECG interpretation.
Each question includes four answer choices, the correct answer, and a concise clinical rationale explaining why
that answer is correct — and, implicitly, why the distractors are not. Many questions include an original,
illustrated Lead II rhythm strip to build genuine pattern-recognition skill rather than rote memorization. Work
through each section in order, cover the answer choices with a piece of paper if you want a timed self-test
experience, and revisit the Clinical Tips boxes — these highlight the exact discriminating features that exam
writers most often test.
A complete Answer Key is provided at the end of the guide for quick self-scoring.
Study Strategy: Before selecting an answer, always work through the rhythm systematically — rate, regularity, P
waves, PR interval, QRS width, and P:QRS ratio — rather than pattern-matching the strip to a remembered
picture. This habit transfers directly to real bedside telemetry interpretation.
