Assignment 3 Semester 2 2026
Unique number:
Due date: September 2026
1. INTRODUCTION
Energy and water are important operating resources in a hotel because guest
rooms, bathrooms, restaurants, bars, gardens, laundry facilities, swimming pools
and cooling systems all depend on these resources every day. The photographs of
Cresta Marang Gardens Hotel show a property with landscaped gardens, an outdoor
swimming pool, guest rooms, bathrooms, a restaurant, a bar and several separate
buildings, which means that efficiency measures must address both indoor and
outdoor facilities rather than focusing on one department only (Booking.com, 2026).
Environmental efficiency in hospitality is mainly concerned with lowering
unnecessary resource use while maintaining the comfort and service level expected
by guests, and this approach can reduce operating costs while also limiting
environmental pressure created by the building and its systems (TRT3701 Study

Environmental efficiency in hospitality is mainly concerned with lowering
unnecessary resource use while maintaining the comfort and service level expected
by guests, and this approach can reduce operating costs while also limiting
environmental pressure created by the building and its systems (TRT3701 Study
Guide, 2021:92). This discussion therefore proposes ten energy efficiency measures
and ten water efficiency measures that respond directly to features visible in the
hotel photographs, with each measure explaining how it can be introduced practically
at Cresta Marang Gardens Hotel.
3.1 MEASURES TO IMPROVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY
3.1.1 Replace existing lamps with energy efficient LED lighting
The photograph of the guest room with a bed, desk and chandelier shows several
lighting points that may operate for long periods when rooms are occupied. I would
replace incandescent or older compact fluorescent lamps in guest rooms, corridors,
the restaurant, bar and reception area with suitable LED lamps that provide the
same useful light while using less electricity. The hotel should complete the
replacement in phases, starting with lights that remain switched on for the longest
periods, because using energy efficient bulbs throughout a hospitality building is a
recognised method of reducing electricity consumption without lowering lighting
quality (TRT3701 Study Guide, 2021:92). The Booking.com room photograph
therefore motivates this measure because decorative fittings can remain in place
while only the lamp technology inside those fittings is changed (Booking.com, 2026).
3.1.2 Install occupancy sensors and timers in low traffic areas
