The 2026 RN Test Plan is effective April 1, 2026 through March 31, 2029. It organizes content by Client Needs and integrates
clinical judgment throughout the examination. The plan includes Safe and Effective Care Environment, Health Promotion and
Maintenance, Psychosocial Integrity, and Physiological Integrity, with subcategories such as management of care,
safety/infection control, pharmacological/parenteral therapies, reduction of risk potential, and physiological adaptation.
The NCLEX-RN uses computerized adaptive testing (CAT). Candidates should prepare for multiple item formats and
clinical-judgment tasks rather than relying only on memorization.
