for some patients, but can be part of a syndrome complex in others.
Upward slanting from the inner canthus is typically seen in infаntѕ with
Down syndrome (picture 6), whereas down slanting palpebral fissures
are characteristic of Treacher Collins and Apert syndromes, and narrow
short palpebral fissures in DiGeorge syndrome.

Definition

A very important first task for parents during their newborn's first week
is learning how much their infant needs, either breast milk or formula.
The first-week visit can provide parents with reassurance that their
baby is getting the appropriate amount of feeding, as evidenced by
gaining weight or a return to the birth weight. It is not uncommon for
newborns, particularly those who are breastfed, to lose up to 10% of
their body weight during the first few days of life (Flaherman et al.,
2015). It should be expected that breastfed newborns return to
birthweight within the first 2 to 4 weeks of life. Newborns with jaundice
may be more difficult to arouse for feedings, which can make it more
difficult to achieve adequate feeding amounts, particularly with
breastfeeding.
