ASSIGNMENT 2
SEMESTER 2 2026
UNIQUE NO.
DUE DATE: 4 SEPTEMBER 2026

, Human Resource Provisioning - HRM2601

Assignment 2 Semester 2 2026

QUESTION 1

Suggest four methods of upward communication that staff members can use to
communicate with Amina. (8)

Upward communication refers to communication that moves from employees to
management. In Amina’s department, effective upward communication methods would
give employees opportunities to express their views, concerns and suggestions without
feeling intimidated.

1. Suggestion programmes

A suggestion programme allows employees to submit ideas and suggestions to
management. For example, Mzansi Retail Group could provide a suggestion box or an
electronic suggestion system where employees can communicate ideas to Amina. This
would allow staff to express themselves even if they are uncomfortable approaching her
directly.

2. Complaint procedures

A formal complaint procedure provides employees with a comfortable and effective way
of bringing problems or complaints to the attention of management. At Mzansi Retail
Group, employees could use a clear complaint procedure to raise concerns about
Amina's leadership style and communication practices.

3. Electronic mail (e-mail)

E-mail provides employees with a rapid, informal and accessible method of
communicating with management. Employees could use e-mail to provide Amina with
suggestions, raise questions or communicate concerns, particularly where they may find
face-to-face communication difficult.
