, QUESTION 1
Given:
• 𝑅1 = 4.0 Ω, current = 9.0 𝐴
• 𝑅2 carries 6.0 𝐴
• 𝑅3 carries 12.0 𝐴
• Find 𝐼5
We use Kirchhoff’s Current Law (KCL):
Current entering a junction = Current leaving a junction
Consider the left junction
From the diagram:
• The 9.0 𝐴current flows into the left junction through 𝑅1 .
• The 6.0 𝐴current flows out of the left junction through 𝑅2 .
• Therefore, the remaining current must flow downward through 𝑅4 .
Applying KCL:
9.0 = 6.0 + 𝐼4
Therefore,
𝐼4 = 9.0 − 6.0
𝐼4 = 3.0 𝐴
So 3.0 𝐴flows downward through 𝑅4 .
Consider the bottom junction
At the bottom junction:
• 12.0 𝐴flows downward through 𝑅3 and enters the bottom junction.
• 3.0 𝐴flows downward through 𝑅4 and also enters the bottom junction.
• 𝐼5 flows upward through 𝑅5 , leaving the bottom junction.
Therefore:
𝐼5 = 12.0 + 3.0
𝐼5 = 15.0 𝐴
∴ 𝐼5 = 15.0 𝐴 upward

Therefore:
𝐼5 = 12.0 + 3.0
𝐼5 = 15.0 𝐴
∴ 𝐼5 = 15.0 𝐴 upward
