LAB SCHEDULE
This schedule will assist you in meeting the learning outcomes for NSG7334(L).
It is the recommendation of Faculty that you review the lab manual and then select from the listed
resources, the ones that best meet your learning style and the weekly learning outcomes.
The identified resources are not meant to be all-inclusive. It is recommended that for each week’s topic you
search the CNO website for standards of practice and RNAO Websites for Best Practice Guidelines.
Please note: the student is to use a critical eye when watching videos, as there may some
differences to how the procedure is taught in the text. It is the expectation that the student can
recognize these differences and apply the principles used in the text.
Weekly reading assignments are identified, including the resources, CNO and RNAO documents. Videos
are available as part of the textbook student resources. Please note that although the chapter is identified,
it is the student’s responsibility to locate the specific pages relevant to the topic. Should the student be
unable to use the link(s) provided, it is expected the student will locate the resource themselves on the
various websites.
It is necessary that you prepare for all labs. Lab time will not be used for showing videos. Some skills may
be demonstrated by the instructor.
You will bring your Perry and Potter Clinical Nursing Skills and Techniques text and skill book to every lab.
Some simulations will be video recorded to enhance the learning opportunity. Students are expected to
actively participate and will be assigned various roles for the simulations.

GUIDELINES
1. The purpose of the lab manual is to facilitate the learning of interpersonal and psychomotor skills.
2. The lab manual is used in conjunction with your nursing textbooks and other resources.
3. It is necessary to prepare for all labs and to bring the required equipment including this lab manual, to
each lab.
4. Class time may not be sufficient to complete all of the activities. Booking for extra lab time for student
usage may be necessary.
5. Self-directed learning, using the lab manual, is encouraged. Mandatory behaviours must be evaluated
by your teacher.
6. Attendance at all scheduled labs is compulsory. Students who are absent for mandatory labs may be
placed on a Learning Contract and will be referred to the Evaluation & Promotions Committee. A
medical certificate may be requested at the discretion of the instructor in the event of absence. You are
responsible to make arrangements to complete the missed lab by:
● preparing the objectives and completing any review tests that correspond to the lab.
● asking a fellow student to assist you in practicing the skills for the lab missed.
● arranging for available lab space and equipment.
Accurately demonstrating the skill for the professor
Regular appointments such as dental and physician MUST be made at times other than clinical practice
and lab.
OBJECTIVES
THE STUDENT WILL:
1. Utilize the lab as a learning environment for developing nursing skills.
2. Be self-directed in completing learning activities and using resources appropriately.
3. Progress at own rate of performance within the guidelines of the course.
4. Develop skill in self-evaluation through the use of progress records and student/instructor
conferences.
5. Demonstrate responsibility in safe and efficient use of lab equipment.
