D253 RSM3 Leadership Task 1: Strengths and Ethical Challenges

D253 – Values-Based Leadership - Task 1 Template and Tips (RSM3)

Name: Briana Bennett
Student ID: 006007630

1. Describe an experience in which you used one of your five signature
strengths (i.e., the first five) from the survey results to overcome a
challenge.

One of my strengths is to be fair, working at the YMCA we see a variety of
people utilizing the facility. One time we had a member who was homeless
come in to use the showers, other members didn’t like that and asked for
him to be removed. I had to explain to them that he is a paying member like
themselves and will continue to have access to the facility. I also explained
to them that it wouldn’t be fair to judge him for his current situation.

a. Explain how you could apply the strength identified in part A1 as a
values-based leader in your new position as the customer service
manager from the scenario.

I can apply fairness in my new position as manager and promote the
candidate with the best qualifications, not basing it off of friendship. Sophia has
shown that she will be able to handle to responsibilities of behind a team lead.
Her performance thus far has been exceptional unlike Michael who is currently
on a performance improvement plan. His performance doesn’t show he will be
able to handle the responsibilities or have the capabilities to be team lead. Omar
only suggested him because they are friends, business decision shouldn’t be
based of friendship but if the individual has the capabilities to perform the job.

2. Describe an experience in which being stronger in one of your five
lesser strengths (i.e., the last five) from the survey results could have
positively influenced the outcome.
Self-regulation has could be one of my stronger values. This past week I
have struggled with completing assignments and working with my set schedule.
This has caused me to fall behind with my course load. Had I been stronger with
this value, I wouldn’t have fallen behind and would’ve been able to complete my
assignments on time.

a. Explain how improving the lesser strength identified in part A2 will help
