Definition
Mathematics is a branch of knowledge that deals with the study of numbers,
quantities, shapes, patterns, structures, measurements, and logical
relationships. It uses symbols, formulas, rules, and logical reasoning to solve
problems and understand relationships between different quantities.
Mathematics helps us perform calculations, measure objects, analyze data,
understand patterns, and solve both theoretical and practical problems. It is used in
many fields, including science, engineering, medicine, economics, computer
science, architecture, and everyday life.
Main Branches of Mathematics
1. Arithmetic – deals with numbers and basic operations such as addition,
subtraction, multiplication, and division.
2. Algebra – deals with variables, equations, and mathematical
relationships.
3. Geometry – studies shapes, sizes, angles, lines, and spaces.
4. Trigonometry – studies the relationships between angles and sides of
triangles.
5. Calculus – studies change, motion, limits, derivatives, and integration.
