QUESTION 1 Read the following scenario carefully and answer questions 1.1-1.4 that follow. Your answers must demonstrate your understanding of the concepts discussed in Chapter 3 of the prescribed book. Apply the relevant concepts to the scenario where appropriate. Ubuntu Healthcare Group is a growing private healthcare organisation with 1200 employees operating in several provinces in South Africa. Senior management recently attended a technology conference where they were impressed by a demonstration of a cloud-based Human Resource Information System (HRIS). Without conducting a formal needs analysis, they immediately approved the purchase of the system and instructed the implementation team to have the new HRIS operational within four months. During preparation for the implementation, several concerns emerged: • HR administrators reported that employee information is currently captured differently in the various provinces. • Managers complained that they were not consulted during the decision-making process and do not understand why the new HRIS is being implemented. • Employees have started circulating rumours that the new HRIS may lead to job losses. • No formal review of existing HR processes and procedures has been conducted. • Many employees expect the new HRIS to solve all current HR administration challenges and completely replace existing manual processes. However, concerns have been raised that the selected cloud-based HRIS may not support all of the organisation's specific requirements. • The implementation team is focusing primarily on system configuration and technical activities and has not adequately communicated with employees about the upcoming changes. • A large proportion of the Ubuntu Healthcare Group's workforce has been employed by the organisation for more than 20 years. Many of these employees prefer the current way of working, are uncomfortable with technology, are concerned about learning how to use the new HRIS, and about the availability of their personal information on the system.
