Objectives:
• I can recount Chapter 3 of Peter Pan.
Drawing or Summarizing
An example of how I can integrate drawing into this lesson to improve student
understanding is having my students take notes by drawing in an interactive notebook to support
them in recalling each chapter of Peter Pan. Youki Terada from Edutopia states that “researchers
confirmed drawing to be a ‘reliable, replicable means of boosting performance’—it provided a
significant boost to students’ ability to remember what they were learning.” (para. 6). This
integration would be incorporated at the end of the lesson when students are asked to recount
Chapter 3 of Peter Pan. As a formative assessment, the students would be asked to draw a
picture or multiple pictures to recount what events occurred in the chapter to show their
comprehension of what they had just read.
Questioning Techniques
I can integrate questioning techniques into this lesson to promote deep learning by
incorporating funnel questions. This questioning technique starts with general questions that lead
into more specific detail in each of the following questions (n.d.). Funnel questioning will
support students in recounting the events in Chapter 3 of Peter Pan. An example of funnel
questions could be: Who are the characters in this chapter? What events occurred in the
