The uploaded file named as the 2024 Paper 1 memorandum contains Paper 2 literature content (Lien

se Lankstaanskoene and poetry). It therefore cannot verify the 2024 Paper 1 answers. The 2022 and
2023 memoranda match their papers and were used to confirm answer patterns and marking
expectations.

Best use of study time (Die beste gebruik van studietyd)
E S
• First master the instruction words (instruksiewoorde): noem, haal aan, verduidelik, motiveer,
O T
bewys, lei af, vergelyk. Many lost marks come from giving the wrong type of answer. (Baie punte
gaan verlore omdat die verkeerde soort antwoord gegee word.) N

• Then learn the sentence-transformation recipes (sinskonstruksie-reëls). These are predictable and
can be practised mechanically.

• Finally build vocabulary (woordeskat) through opposites, synonyms, homophones, idioms and
words used in advertisements or cartoons.
Marking lesson (Nasienles)
N G
RI
When a question says motiveer (give a reason), the reason is often the mark-bearing part. A bare
‘Ja/Nee’ may earn nothing. If two facts are requested (Noem TWEE feite), give two clearly separate
facts.

2. Comprehension (Leesbegrip)
L
Y
The goal is not to translate every word. The goal is to locate evidence (bewyse vind), understand the
KA
instruction (die instruksie verstaan), and answer only what earns marks (antwoord net wat punte
verdien).
2.1 The five-step method (Die vyfstapmetode)
1. Preview (Kyk vooraf)
Read the title, source, pictures, captions and first sentence of each paragraph. Predict the topic and
purpose. (Lees die titel, bron, prente, byskrifte en eerste sin; voorspel die onderwerp en doel.)
2. Read the questions (Lees die vrae)
Underline the instruction word (instruksiewoord), mark allocation (puntetoekenning) and paragraph
reference (paragraafverwysing). Circle TWEE, EEN WOORD and in jou eie woorde.
3. Scan (Soeklees)
Look for names, dates, repeated nouns and synonyms of the question wording. (Soek name,
datums, herhaalde woorde en sinonieme.)
