1. Rate 60-100 bpm, regular rhythm, each P wave before Normal Sinus Rhythm
QRS, PR 0.12-0.20 sec, QRS 0.06-0.10 sec.
2. A normal rhythm but with a rate under 60 bpm. Causes Sinus Bradycardia
include athletes, sleep, vagal stimulation, or meds. If
unstable, treated with Atropine or pacing.
3. A normal rhythm but with a rate over 100 bpm. Causes Sinus Tachycardia
include stress, fever, anemia, pain, or stimulants. It
reduces filling time and can cause ischemia. Treat the
cause; meds like beta blockers may be used.
4. Are early, wide QRS beats. Occasional ones may be Premature Ventricular
harmless, but frequent (>6/min) or runs are concern- Contractions (PVC)
ing. Causes include caffeine, ischemia, low K+/Mg.
Treatment includes avoiding triggers or beta blockers.
5. Irregular with no P waves due to chaotic atrial activ- Atrial fibrillation (AFIB)
ity. It risks clots (stroke) and low cardiac output (no
atrial kick). Symptoms include palpitations, fatigue,
SOB. Managed with rate control, anticoagulation, and
sometimes cardioversion.
6. Has sawtooth atrial waves (240-340 bpm). Symptoms Atrial flutter
are CP, SOB, and palpitations. Treatment may include
vagal maneuvers, adenosine, beta/Ca blockers, antico-
agulation, or cardioversion/ablation.
7. A fast rhythm (>100 bpm) with narrow QRS, some- Supraventricular tachycar-
times hiding P waves. Patients feel palpitations, SOB, dia (SVT)
