Element Learning Outcomes: -State the size of cells, understand the various scales for cell measurement, and cell components -List and explain the fundamental properties of cells -Draw and label a diagram of a biological membrane indicating the key membrane components -Compare and contrast the basic features of prokaryotes and eukaryote cells. -Describe the basic structure and roles of organelles involved in: (1) Protein expression; (2) Secretory pathway; (3) Uptake and degradation. -Outline the cytoskeleton components and centrosome and their basic functions. -Describe the advantages to eukaryotes brought by the evolution of compartmentation and mitochondria. -Sketch a diagram of a typical animal cell. Indicate and name each organelle and also state its function.
