actions, uses, and effects on the human body.
5 Key Terms:
⦁ Pharmacokinetics: What the body does to the
drug. ADME - Absorption, Distribution,
Metabolism, Excretion.
⦁ Pharmacodynamics: What the drug does to the
body.
⦁ Therapeutic Effect: The desired effect of the
drug.
⦁ Adverse Effect: Unwanted or side effect of the
drug.
⦁ Half-life: The time taken for 50% of the drug to
be eliminated from the body.

1. ANALGESICS - Pain Relievers
Action: Block pain signals to the brain
Examples: Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Morphine
Uses: Fever, Mild to Severe Pain
Side Effects: Liver damage, Stomach ulcer,
Respiratory depression
Nursing Responsibilities:
1. Assess pain level using 0-10 pain scale before
and after administration.
2. Monitor liver function tests for long-term use.
3. Advise patient to take with food to prevent
gastric irritation.
