Opportunity for Improvement Analysis
This week I had the opportunity to meet with a team that I developed as my school
improvement team. The school improvement team consists of several coworkers that have years
of experience in education and I believe to be integral members of our staff. I chose my principal
and mentor, Mrs. M, as a part of my team as she brings over 20 years of experience as an
educator, with 10 of them being an administrator. Next, I asked the fourth grade math teacher,
Mr. L, who has several years experience as a math teacher, a special education teacher, and he is
a part of our school’s data team. Lastly, I asked the fourth, fifth, and sixth grade ELA teachers,
Ms. J, Ms. D, and Ms. G, as they are all creative and enthusiastic about reading and in finding
strategies to improve our students' reading and writing skills. Ms. J, fourth grade ELA, is in her
eighth year of teaching and has also completed her Master’s in Educational Leadership. Ms. G,
fifth grade ELA, has been a teacher for over 10 years and has taught kindergarten, fourth grade
science and social studies, and also has a Master’s in Educational Leadership. Lastly, Ms. D,
sixth grade ELA, is in her seventh year teaching with previous experience in first grade and also
a Master’s degree. I chose these members of my team because I believe they all bring fresh and
important ideas to the table. They are passionate about their jobs and about getting students to
read more. They also find fun ways of getting students to participate in class and get excited
about reading.
Meeting Summary
The school improvement team was able to meet on Monday this week during CPT in the
morning before students arrived. This week was a busy week for us being the week before Read
Across America and having parent meetings before progress reports went out on Friday. We were
able to meet for an hour before students came in on Monday in Ms. D's room and discussed the
