Presenting to Community Stakeholders and Post-Project Reflection

As I look back and reflect on my internship experiences and assignments completed in

this course, EL5053, I believe I have grown in my understanding of what family - school -

community engagement programs are and what they can achieve. While meeting with my mentor

to discuss engagement programs, I was surprised at the many engagement opportunities our

school offers for parents, as well as the many resources the town provides to members of the

community through the schools. During this course, I was able to identify the strengths and

weaknesses of certain programs we offer and what we can do to improve them. I realized how PS

# 3 follows Epstein's idea of creating family-like schools by recognizing each child's

individuality and working to meet their needs (Epstein et al., 2019). We strive to provide a safe,

equitable learning environment for all our students and build relationships through

communication. We have a diverse population, so we make sure notices are sent out in multiple

languages. Teachers also use communication apps that have translation services to effectively

communicate with parents. Prior to this course, I had not been aware of the Six Types of

Involvement. Thanks to this course, I now have a better understanding of the difference between

engagement and involvement. Being aware of this difference and working to build relationships

with our families are important as I continue to work towards my goal of becoming an effective

principal someday.

data-based decision-making when trying to build relationships and create any family - school -

community engagement initiative. In order for an engagement program to have a positive impact

on our students' academic achievement, we must analyze data in order to envision what goals we

want to set with these engagement initiatives. Throughout this course, we worked on SMART

goals that we wanted to set up for our school community. By analyzing data, we are able to align
