Acne vulgaris - answer"Acne", skin condition that affects the hair follicles and oil glands
in the skin. Characterized by the presence of pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. Can
occur on the face, neck, chest, back and shoulders, characterized by comedones,
pustules and postulates.
Callus - answerthickened area of the skin that develops as a result of repeated friction
or pressure, not contagious and are generally painless - can be sensitive to touch; tx by
removing the source of friction or pressure and using moisturizing creams or a pumice
stone to gently exfoliate the thicken skin.
Wart - answersmall rough growth on the skin that is caused by the human papilloma
virus, can appear on any part of the body; warts will have small thrombosed vessels.
Age effects on skin - answerhave a loss of subcutaneous fat and lower collagen
contents, causing elderly to have thin / dry skin; decrease in touch receptors.
malignant melanoma - answerasymmetry, border irregularity, color variations and a
larger than normal mole; consistently changing in size, shape, color and elevation. May
have symptoms of itching, bleeding or crusting; arise from melanocytes.
Squamous cell carcinoma - answerstarts from the epidermis
Rosacea - answerchronic skin condition that primarily affects the face, causing redness,
flushing, and sometimes visible blood vessels. Common conditions that typically starts
after age 30, affects both men and women but more common in women.
Dermatits - answercharacterized by pruritus with lesions that have an indistinct border.
Molluscum contagiosum - answerhighly contagious disease and can be spread through
direct skin to skin contact, sharing of personal items or contact w/ contaminated
surfaces; appearance includes small flesh, colored or pearly bumps on the skin - bumps
are usually smooth dome shaped and have a central indentation or pimple.
Pressure ulcer - answer"bed sores or pressure sores" ; injuries to the skin and
underlying tissue that occured d/t prolonged pressure to the skin; classified into different
stages according to severity.
Stage 1 - answerskin is intact but appears reddened, usually over body prominence,
affected area may feel warmer, firm to touch; darker skin tones area may appear
blue/purple
