WGU D333 TASK 2 | ACCURATE AND VERIFIED | 2026 UPDATE
D333
Task 2
Andrew L. Reiter
Task 2, A1.
Explain how professional codes of ethics guide professional behavior.
Professional codes of ethics, regardless of industry, guide people’s behavior by
ensuring that individuals use their specialized knowledge responsibly and in the best
interests of their clients specifically and society generally. These industry codes
establish standards that help professionals balance their authority with accountability,
reinforcing trust in the client–professional relationship. They benefit from a profession in
two specific ways: 1.) by safeguarding the integrity of the field through consistent ethical
practices, and 2.) by strengthening public confidence, since clients can rely on
professionals to act with fairness and expertise rather than personal gain. This
framework not only protects clients but also elevates the profession’s credibility and
long-term sustainability.
Task 2 B1.
Select two principles from the ACM Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
Two key ACM Code of Ethics principles that directly apply to Cybersecurity filed
and specifically to me as a Cybersecurity Incident Handler are: 1.) 1.1 Avoid harm to
others and 2.) 1.6 Respect privacy and confidentiality. Both principles are critical
because they align with the Department of Defense (DoD) responsibilities of protecting
systems, data, and people from malicious activity.
Principle 1: Avoid Harm to Others.
Incident Handler professionals must ensure that their work does not cause injury
(damage to DoD network infrastructure and computing system) , loss of information, or
other negative consequences. This is relevant to my field as a cybersecurity incident
handler in that I am responsible for mitigating risks and reporting incidents that could
harm individuals or DoD information systems. Furthermore, my role is to detect,
analyze, and respond to cyber threats that could disrupt business operations,
compromise sensitive data, or endanger Soldiers safety. By following this principle, I
prioritize rapid containment and remediation to minimize harm. It also guides me in
addition to our established tactics, techniques and procedures (TTP) to act responsibly
when disclosing vulnerabilities, ensuring that breaches that attempt to compromise
information systems prevent exploitation rather than enabling attackers. This principle
strengthens trust in cybersecurity professionals. Clients and organizations rely on you to
