Physical and Environmental Conditions
Nicaragua is a Central American country approximately the size of the U.S. state of
Alabama. It is bordered by Honduras to the north, Costa Rica to the south, the Caribbean
, Sea to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west.
Nicaragua has a varied physical geography centered on a central string of low mountains
and volcanoes along the Pacific Coast. Northern and eastern Nicaragua host a tropical
rainforest climate with limited population and access, including the Bosawas Biosphere
Reserve (the second largest tropical rainforest in the Western Hemisphere). The central
