uterine smooth muscle Fetal: premature closure of ductus arteriosus
Newborn: broncho-pulmonary dysplasia,
respiratory distress syndrom, intracranial
pressure, necrotizing enterocolitis, hyper-
bilirubinemia
... NI: Used when other methods fail only if
gestational age is <32 wk Not used in clients with
bleeding potential, peptic ulcer disease or
oligohydraminos
Follow agency protocol for administration
nifedipine-Procardia,Adalat, A/E:
Nifedical Mom: tachycardia, palpitations, pulmonary
calcium channel blocker, relaxes edema, chest pain, myocardial ischemia,
smooth muscle, including the hypotension, tremors, hypokalemia
uterus, by blocking channel entry hyperglycemia,
Newborn: tachycardia, hypotension, ileus, hypo-
calcium, hyper-bilirubenemia, hyper-insulinemia
with hypoglycemia
... NI: Teach client and family to monitor for adverse
effects and when to notify hcp
