Video: Practicing Presentation and Audience Skills through Science Presentations
A1:
Listening, observing, and staying focused is hard for any age but for the kindergarten class
in this video the teacher guides them in a lesson with reminders. The teacher begins by
asking the students what listening and observing looks like. The students raise their hands
and begin to tell the teacher parts of a good listener. The teacher has a chart ready to help if
the students need it. The chart consists of the expectations with pictures that represent the
expectations. The teacher is applying Piaget's cognitive development theory in her teaching.
A2:
The Piaget’s cognitive development theory stage that the teacher is applying is the second stage,
Preoperational Stage. The age range for the Preoperational Stage is two to seven years old, and the
kindergarten class in the video falls within this age group. Part of the Preoperational Stage is
children learning while using pictures or symbols to represent objects. The chart made by the
teacher has pictures to represent the expectations of a good listener and observer. For
example, when a student sees a picture of eyes, they know their eyes should be watching the
presenter or video.

two ESL learners who need help with reading and writing skills in English. The teacher in this

objective on the front board in both English and Spanish. This allows the two ESL learners to
