The United States has the highest prisoner’s population rates in the world along with
China being the second (Statista.com, 2020). The main reason is simply they don’t have the
money to bail themselves out, which implies they will be released, as long as they show up in
court as they promised to appear in court when they require to do so. If they can’t pay, they have
no choice but go to jail, until they can find a reputable criminal attorney and appear before
court. Other reason is people go to jail because they don’t know their rights and could not
benefit from a fair trial. Those with mental issues would need help and those who are not able to
afford the help from medical assistance and other programs that are design to help the low-
income communities with these programs but not able to get them when they really needed it
but the only other choice, they are leave with is to go out and commit crime and that puts them
behind bars.
Those with problems from the low-income communities that have mental issues or drug
usage problems end up committing crimes to be able get help behind bars knowing the health
care they will receive is promising, the only thing is left to do is to commit the crime before they
know what they are getting is help behind bars, because of the lack of medication or assistance
from outside is difficult to receive to fight with their medical issue and further damage their
health issues. Once these individuals reach the jail or prison, they are given a full medical
evaluation to find out how they can help once diagnosed with the condition if found. The
individual who is receiving the medial attention the assigned nurse or doctor in jail or prison
makes sure they are being helped while being incarceration. Once the individual is released
, back into the normal society after being incarceration, many times they come right back being in
the same situation locked up behind bars. Eighty percent of the incarcerated population that is
released back into our society each year they have no health insurance and or will not earn
enough money to purchase or to survive (Rich, 2014). This situation which leads in to a higher
recidivism rates but it makes life much harder for these individuals in the community that they
are being released into.

There are agencies who would like to help those who are unfortunate and are living in
the low-income communities that need to find affordable health care plans, educate the low-
income communities about the mental health and substance abuse issues which they are facing
all the time with their partners, offering better healthcare and other opportunities to low-income
families it will help their mental health, substance abuse, and preventative health care options so
these individuals have better chance surviving. Providing the knowledge and direction to low-
income community with the healthcare plans, the warning signs for mental health issues or
suicide victims or even a person with a substance problem it would make it easier for those who
require help would be able to help before something awful situation appears which it would be
hard for them to deal with. The correctional system is trying to better the situation towards
making better improvements in providing better healthcare while the individual being in prison
as well as assisting with post release outcomes. In many situations the system takes long time to
process these cases and it takes a long time for to be processed since there are too many
prisoners in our prison system that need more adequate healthcare than what they could afford in
their low- income community before being arrested.

Government do offer many grant programs for low-income communities and those come
out of prison, and these funding sources for these programs can be several different other options
