• Humans use cognitive processes to make sense of world around them
• Senses collect information from outside world and then use internal mental processes to
interpret information
• Examples= memory, language, attention, decision making and perception
• Processes all work together for us to understand world
• Processes occur quickly and automatically
• Use introspection to study processes – participant describes how a task makes them feel
• Griffiths (1994) regular gamblers had more irrational verbalisation than non regular
