Mastering the 8 Parts of Speech is essential for understanding English grammar structure. Every
word in a sentence falls into one of these fundamental categories.
1. Noun
A Noun is the name of a person, place, thing, or abstract idea.
Types & Examples:
o Proper Noun (Specific name): Sarah, London, Amazon,
Microsoft
o Common Noun (General name): Teacher, city, laptop, country
o Abstract Noun (Ideas/Qualities): Honesty, freedom, courage,
knowledge
o Collective Noun (Group): Team, class, audience, flock
Example Sentences:
o Knowledge gives you confidence.
o The teacher explained the concept clearly.
2. Pronoun
A Pronoun is a word used in place of a noun to avoid unnecessary repetition.
Types & Examples:
o Personal: I, you, he, she, it, we, they
o Possessive: Mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs
o Demonstrative: This, that, these, those
o Relative: Who, which, that, whom, whose
Example Sentences:
o Alex was absent because he was unwell.

3. Verb
A Verb expresses an action, state of being, or occurrence. It is the most vital part of any
sentence.

o Action Verbs: Write, analyse, run, create, solve
