Moleculaire biologie = studie v/h leven op moleculair niveau

→ Het is ontstaan uit genetica & biochemie

DNA (genetica) → RNA → eiwit (biochemie)

Inzichten in structuur van erfelijk materiaal
Vroeger dacht men dat de eigenschappen van moeder & vader gemengt werden

Mendel:

▪ Studies overerving bij erwten
▪ Ronde erwt RR x gerimpelde erwt rr → ronde erwt Rr (dit ontkacht meng theorie)
Rr x Rr → RR + 2x Rr + rr (er is 1x een gerimpelde erwt aanwezig)
▪ Ontdekte het concept van de overerfbare partikels & dominant/recessief
In dit geval is R dominant en r recessief

Walther Flemming:

▪ Ontdekte de kleuring v/d chromosomen
▪ Beschreef de mitose (tekeningen) & de beweging v/d chromosomen

Sutton & Boveri:

▪ Beschreven de meiose
▪ Splitsen v/d homologe chromosomen, dit is segregatie van allelen (kwam goed overeen met de
theorie v/d overerfbare partikels van Mendel)

In het begin v/d 20e eeuw zijn de wetten van Mendel herontdekt (vroeger was er slechte verspreiding
van wetenschappelijke info, nu via bv. PubMed)

Thomas Hunt Morgan:

▪ Ontdekte dat genen op de chromosomen zitten (dit toonde meteen de bevindingen van Mendel
aan)
▪ Nobelprijs voor genetica
▪ Werkte via fruitvliegjes: normale oogkleur is rood
Er was een mutatie die aanleiding gaf tot witte ogen, maar enkel bij mannetjes
Wild type = normaal (rode ogen), mutant = niet normaal (witte ogen)
Wild type vrouw x mutant man → F1 mannetjes & vrouwtjes met rode ogen
→ F2 mannetjes & vrouwtjes met rode ogen +
mannetjes met witte ogen
▪ Er werd een correlatie gemaakt met geslachtschromosomen
Hij ging ervan uit dat het gen voor de oogkleur op een X chromosoom zat, mannetjes
hebben slechts 1 X chromosoom
