Kelly’s Way EMT SHOCK
All types of shock are caused by a problem with
one or more of the following:
• PUMP – Heart
• PIPE – Veins/Arteries
• FLUID – Blood
(The container is the body)
Think About This!
If the pump is broken, it can’t pump fluid to supply
the pipes and container. If the pump
fails, nothing moves through the system.
(Cardiogenic Shock)
If the pipes are leaking or open, fluid comes out
and goes where it shouldn’t—the
pump has nothing to pump. (Distributive Shock:
Anaphylactic, Septic, Neurogenic)
If the pipes don’t constrict because the message
isn’t getting through, pressure drops
and blood doesn’t go where it should. (Neurogenic
Shock)
If the fluid is low and the pipes don’t constrict to
compensate, there’s no pressure for
the pump to move anything. (Hypovolemic Shock)
