Research Paradigm for the Study: Factors Affecting Grade 6 Learners’ Performance
in Mathematics
A research paradigm is the worldview guiding how a study is designed and conducted.
Kuhn (1962) popularised the idea, showing that paradigms shape assumptions about
reality and knowledge. In comparing qualitative and quantitative paradigms, Creswell
(2018) explains that qualitative research focuses on meanings, experiences, and context,
while quantitative research emphasises measurement, numbers, and statistical analysis.
