B.P3 Produce designs for 2D and 3D digital graphic
products to meet the client’s brief.

Introduction

I have been asked to design and develop both 2D and 3D digital graphics
for a theatre company’s upcoming production of The Importance of Being
Earnest by Oscar Wilde. The purpose of this project is to visually support
the play through the creation of a 3D stage set design for Act 1 and a 2D
graphic that can be used as background artwork in the promotional
materials for the production.

The 3D graphic will represent the stage layout and interior flat setting
used during Act 1 of the play, while the 2D graphic will reuse elements of
the stage backdrop to ensure visual consistency across promotional
media. Before any digital development takes place, a structured design
process is required to ensure that the final products meet the client brief,
suit the target audience, and comply with legal and ethical requirements.
I will be designing a 2d poster and the stage set.

Client Design Brief

The purpose of the graphics is to:

• Visually represent the stage set for Act 1 of the play
• Assist the theatre production team with planning and visualisation
• Provide consistent visual material for promotional use.
• I will design / sketch a plan for the poster, create a poster to
advertise the play, this is my 2D example
• I will include sketches then develop the stage
• The above 2 will be my design visualisations

The target audience for the poster will be aimed at anybody who will
watch the play, these could be families, males, females, people that like a
bit of culture and interest in the Victorian era and the why that people act
in that time etc.

The target audience for the stage would be as above together with the
anybody associated with the production, for example the choreographer,
director, actors etc.

,Individuals viewing promotional materials such as posters or digital
advertisements; the poster will be family friendly.

Production staff involved in staging and set construction

The size of poster would ideally be A1, initially created as A4. The style
would be old fashioned style that reflects the Victorian era. Ideally, it
would be an illustration because I cannot use the real actor’s images so
as to not violated the copyright legislation.

The image will have monochromatic colour scheme, consisting of black,
white, and shades of grey, this type of colour scheme is effective because
it creates a formal and classic visual style, which matches the historical
context of The Importance of Being Earnest also the poster parts can be
seen at a distance.

The main starting point for this project was the client brief, which asked
for a 3D stage set design for Act 1 of The Importance of Being Earnest,
along with a related 2D graphic for promotional use. From this brief, I
identified important requirements such as the stage dimensions, the need
for a flat interior design, the inclusion of entrance and exit doors,
appropriate furniture, and a suitable backdrop for a live theatre setting.
These requirements influenced all of the design decisions I made during
the planning process.

Secondly inspiration was about knowing of the play and what it is about.
It being about two men who are entangled but lead two different lives. I
won’t be using this idea but at least I have an idea of the time period this
relates to.

I also gathered inspiration from researching Victorian-era interiors and
traditional theatre stage layouts. This helped me understand how homes
from that time were designed and decorated, as well as how stage sets
are arranged to support both audience viewing and actor movement.
Creating mood boards with visual references allowed me to explore how I
could balance historical accuracy with the practical needs of a theatre
production.

The above can provided me some idea of what I needed to add into my designs,
above I have some keywords that allowed me to add some ideas, as to

, examples of what I need to look for and add. I understand the example is very
brief, however provides me with an overview for my planning.

Mood board

I created the above mood board to establish the style of the interior
setting. This included images of Victorian furniture, decorations, fabrics,
and room details. It helped me decide what type of furniture to include,
