C208 Task 1
A. Analyze the current state of the chosen organization by doing the following:
A1. Describe the mission statement of the chosen organization.
The organization I have chosen is School Readiness, a home visitation program housed at
the Tehama County Department of Education (TCDE) and funded by the Tehama County
Children and Families Commission known as First 5 Tehama (F5T). The mission of School
Readiness is the same mission of F5T, which is that Tehama County children will be born
healthy and thrive in safe, supportive, nurturing, and loving environments; and will enter school
cognitively prepared and be healthy, active, and socially appropriate learners.
A1a. Describe the goals for the organization over the next three years.
School Readiness provides parenting education, resource connections, and referrals for
intervention through home visitation to families with children ages zero to 5. The program is
funded by F5T which ultimately comes from a California tobacco tax initiative, and each year
this funding declines, though costs to operate the program continually increase. One major goal
for School Readiness over the next three years is to secure additional investment from local
school districts to support our work and maintain the current capacity for families served.
Tehama County school districts are seeing an increase in children not ready for kindergarten and
are looking for solutions. Additionally, through changes in how they receive their own funding,
districts are looking at ways to increase parent engagement and student attendance. These goals
align with our program services and since we are serving the children that will be their
kindergarteners in the next few years, it has become important to build relationships and
collaborate. We currently receive in kind contributions from several districts, including office
