Describe how Support Operations enables freedom of action, extending operation reach, and prolongs

extend their operational reach. Support operations key role is to distribute supplies and necessities
forward on the battlefield. Support operations enable endurance of units because the SPO section
manages, plans, coordinates, and supervises the sustainment activities across the battlefield ensuring
timely and accurate amounts of supplies to the units in need.

The principles of sustainment are integration, anticipation, responsiveness, simplicity, economy
survivability, continuity, and improvisation. Support operations utilizing sustainment warfighting
function with related tasks and systems give commanders the will to act, achieve operational initiatives,
and control/maintain operational tempo. Extend operational reach of distance and duration that a unit
can successfully employ military capabilities and prolong endurance of combat power anywhere for
protracted periods. These functions consist of four elements: logistics, financial management, personnel
services, and health service support.




Explain the activities and capabilities within each Role of Care (I - IV). - correct answers -Role 1 care
capabilities is life saving and what you can do immediately. Involves patient collection for evacuation to
the next role of care.

Role 2 care capabilities is a more advance care trauma management and emergency medical treatment.
Provides the ability to resuscitate patients. Role 2 can do xrays, lab work, dental, and blood packs. But
keep in mind role 2 has very limited hold over capacity.

Role 3 patients have the ability to receive surgery of all types even specialty surgeries. Take in account
what the tactical situations allows. Role 3 can also provide post op treatment.

Role 4 is base hospital treatment mostly found in CONUS, and with some OCONUS facilities. This is the
highest level of care allowing for long term treatment, too include rehabilitation.

Role 1 is immediate care such as providing resupply for combat lifesavers and IFAC, providing immediate
lifesaving measures, treatment for disease and nonbattle injury (DNBI) or degradations of functional
capability caused by factors other than those directly attributed to enemy action (illness), combat and
operations stress prevention, patient location and acquisition collection, treatment provided by combat
medics, corpsmen, treatment squads, or animal care specialists for working animals with a major
emphasis on return to duty or stabilized for evacuation.
