The Ultimate Guide to Scoring 8.5+ in the Personal
Interview
🗺️ CHAPTER 1: THE ARCHITECTURE OF
PART 1
IELTS Speaking Part 1 is often underestimated. Many candidates think,
"It’s just warm-up questions, I can wing it." This is a critical mistake.
Part 1 sets the first impression for the examiner. Within the first 4 to 5
minutes, the examiner has already made an initial mental assessment of
your band score.
⏱️ The Rules of Engagement
● Time Duration: 4 to 5 minutes.
● Number of Topics: 3 different topics (Topic 1 is always either
Hometown or Work/Study, followed by 2 random topics like Pets,
Mirror, Weather, etc.).
● Number of Questions: 10 to 12 questions in total.
● Ideal Answer Length: 3 to 4 sentences (approx. 20–30 seconds
per answer). Never give 1-word answers, and never speak so long
that the examiner has to interrupt you.
🎯 CHAPTER 2: THE A.R.E.A
, STRUCTURE MATRIX
To ensure every answer you give is structured, grammatical, and long
enough, you must use the A.R.E.A formula. It forces your brain to
generate a logical sequence on the spot.

⚡ Deep-Dive of the Components:
1. [A] Answer: Do not repeat the examiner's question word-for-word.
Paraphrase it using advanced vocabulary.
○ Instead of: "Yes, I like music."
○ Say: "Without a doubt, I am incredibly passionate about
music."
2. [R] Reason: Connect your answer with high-level cohesive linkers
like 'since', 'owing to', 'primarily because'.
