Physical Activity

The chosen public health issue according to Healthy People 2030 is Physical Activity.

The objective of Healthy People 2030 is to enhance health, fitness, and well-being via regular

physical activity. Today, only 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 5 adolescents in the U.S. follow the

recommended physical activity guidelines. Physical exercise prevents illness, disability, injuries,

and early mortality; however, several goals related to this theme reveal either no progress or

negative progression (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, n.d.). The topic is

relevant to Warren County, New Jersey, because 24% of adults in this county have been reported

to be physically inactive. As a potential counter solution, a Rural Active Living and Nutrition

Hub program WILL help achieve the Healthy People 2030 Physical Activity goals through

increased physical activity access, removal of barriers in rural settings, and aerobic and muscle

strengthening exercise promotion (Tennessee Department of Health, 2025).

A2: Program Basics

The proposed “Rural Active Living and Nutrition Hub” is a community program is meant

to boost the level of physical activity amongst the adult population in Warren County, New

Jersey. The key objectives of the initiative include increasing the percentage of people who

perform moderate aerobic physical activity for at least 150 minutes in a week and improving

access to nutrition that supports an active life. The target population for this program is adult

residents from rural areas, with preference given to lower-income families and elderly

individuals who have difficulties accessing transportation and engaging in physical activities.
