Intrinsic and
Extrinsic
Motivation

, Motivation
Motivation is energy for action; an internal process that keeps all individuals living.
In other words, motivation is a drive or need, and a desire for change, either in the
self or the environment. Motives direct our behaviour in many different ways as well
as the inner-energy encourages us to keep moving forward (Batterbee, 2020).
Two types of motivations, in the motivation model are classified as intrinsic and
extrinsic motivations. Intrinsically motivated behaviors are engaged in primarily for
the satisfaction and pleasure derived from performing them, whereas extrinsically
motivated behaviors focus on performance, outcome, and efficiency.
Hence, motivation can be defined as two basic types: extrinsic — everything that
exists in the world, and intrinsic — what comes from the inner-self; the individual.
