D299 Task 1 (2) - Assignment
for my module
Learning Experience Design
Lab (Western Governors
University)
, Part 1: Contextual Information for E-learning Module
A. Target Audience Characteristics:
● Learners’ prior knowledge and skills will vary. Eight students out
of twenty are bilingual and are still developing their English
proficiency. Students will also have different technology skill
backgrounds based on their home access to technology and
their past school experiences.
● The age range will include eight to nine years old.
● Students have a variety of interests in this class including
sports, music, and art. Most of the students play soccer,
baseball, basketball, and football recreationally. Some students
are on the robotics team. Students in the class are into music
including five students who are in the school musical. Six
students participate in the art club after school.
● The levels of education will include at least two to three years of
school. This is based on whether the students attended a
preschool setting. However, all students will have completed
kindergarten and the first grade prior to this.
● The motivation to learn the concepts and skills is that students
want to learn more about animals. Some students have a strong
self-motivation to improve their reading, math, and writing
skills. Other students are motivated by their household
expectations of good grades and participation.
● Other learner characteristics will include 8 out of 20 being
multi-language learners, 2 students having IEP due to speech
needs, three students having ADHD which can impact their
focus, and one student who has hearing impairments (wears a
hearing aid).
B. Identify the following components of your e-learning module:
The instructional problem is that second-grade students are performing poorly in their
animal science section during their standardized tests. This module's goal is to increase
science scores within the animal science section.
Learning Goal: The learning goal is for students to be able to classify animals based
on their physical characteristics and explain how those
characteristics help them survive in their habitats.
Module Organization: The module is situated within a larger unit of animals and their
habitats. This module is based on a section of the science unit.
This module will be used to go over standards 2.L.5A.1 Obtain and
communicate information to classify animals (such as mammals,
birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish, or insects) based on their physical
characteristics and 2.L.5B.2 Develop and use models to exemplify
characteristics of animals that help them survive in distinct
environments (such as salt and freshwater, deserts, forests,
wetlands, or polar lands).
