Abstract
The Transport and Logistics industry has faced major challenges over the past decades.
However, some of the most concerning ones are, costs, security, environment factors, global
trade, political factors, changing technology, etc. In this study, we discuss these challenges and
their impacts on the transport and logistics sector, as we look at the current and future state of
the industry in a changing technological environment. Finally, the study will then focus on
providing a detail analysis of viable solutions and strategies used to tackle these challenges.

Introduction
Over the course of history, transportation has been a major driving force of every aspect
of economy. Today, it continues to enable both small and large corporations, by allowing them
to move their goods from their point of origin to destination. Manufacturers, distribution
companies, and retailers are working hard on a daily basis to meet their goals of delivering the
right products, at the right place, at the right time, while minimizing costs, and maximizing
efficiency. In addition to costs management, there are other challenges logisticians face every
day. Challenges such as security, trade, political factors, environmental factors and changing
technology. What then logistics professionals must understand? The transport and logistic
sector is growing at a very rapid pace and will keep growing for the foreseeable future.
According to Morales (2015) “Logistics and transportation is a growing field, one that will not
plateau.
Companies are always seeking faster and better ways to get products to market and on
consumers’ shelves or in their driveways. It is a sector that requires ingenuity for today and
vision for the future” (p. 1). For this reason, many authors have already addressed the issues
facing the industries in the past, and others continue to do so, through scholarly articles,
newspapers, books, and conferences. This paper is a literature review of selected peer-
documents addressing the transport and logistics sector in general, and those challenges, in
particular. It will also combine these authors’ ideas and interpret their point of view on the
matters at hand, as it pertains to the transport and logistics industry.
