, SECTION I: Machine Operation & Controls
1. Emergency Stop (E-Stop) button on CNC machine:
A. Pauses program only
✓ B. Immediately stops all machine motion and spindle
C. Turns off coolant
D. Homes machine
Rationale: E-Stop: Red mushroom button. Immediately cuts power to drives, stops spindle, axes, coolant.
For emergencies only. After E-Stop, must home machine before restart. Feed Hold pauses; E-Stop stops.
Reset required before operation.

2. MDI mode on CNC control is used for:
A. Running production program
✓ B. Manual Data Input - entering single commands
C. Editing programs only
D. Tool changes only
Rationale: MDI: Manual Data Input. Enter and execute single blocks (M03 S1000, G00 X1.0). Used for
setup, manual moves, warm-up. Not for production. EDIT mode for programs. AUTO/MEM for production.
JOG for manual axis movement.

3. Feed Rate Override dial at 50% means:
A. Spindle 50%
✓ B. Programmed feed rate reduced to 50%
C. Rapid 50%
D. Coolant 50%
Rationale: Feed Override: adjusts programmed feed rate 0-150%. At 50%, F10.0 becomes F5.0. Rapid
Override separate. Spindle Override separate. Used to adjust cutting conditions. Set to 100% for normal
operation. Does not affect rapid moves.

4. Single Block mode does what:
A. Runs entire program
✓ B. Executes one line of code then stops
C. Blocks program
D. Deletes blocks
Rationale: Single Block: Executes one line/block, then stops. Press Cycle Start for next block. Used for
program prove-out, first run, troubleshooting. Safer than continuous. Optional Stop M01 also stops if
activated.

5. Machine Home/Reference position is:
A. Part zero
✓ B. Machine coordinate zero set by limit switches
C. Tool change position
