Who prescribes examinations and determines the passing score? - ANSWER -the
board
What must accompany the application and fees for an individual who has not yet
graduated? - ANSWER -a letter on official letterhead of the accredited educational
institution (with signature of program director, department chairperson or other
authorized person) that states the individual is a (1) candidate for degree as PT at
next graduation date, (2) date for NPTE is one nearest and before the expected
graduation date (no more than 120 days before graduation) and (3) applicant meets
any other established requirements of the accredited program
What happens if an applicant for licensure/certification does not pass the NPTE on
first attempt? - ANSWER -May retake the exam ONE more time within 6 months after
the first failure without reapplication for licensure/certification
Will the board license an individual who passes the exam through fraud? - ANSWER
-No
What does the PT national exam test? - ANSWER -ENTRY LEVEL competence
related to PT theory, exam and evaluation, dx, px, tx intervention, prevention and
consultation
What does the PTA national exam test? - ANSWER -requisite knowledge and skills
in the technical application of PT services

, What "statements" are included in an application? - ANSWER -1. ever been
convicted of, pled guilty or no contest to or entered into diversion in lieu of
prosecution for any criminal offense
2. had an application for professional/occupational license/cert/registration OTHER
THAN driver's license denied, rejected, suspended or revoked
3. is currently or ever has been under investigation, suspension or restriction
4. has ever been subject of disciplinary action by a professional association or post-
secondary institution
5. committed any of the actions referenced in definition of good moral character
6. had malpractice judgement, lawsuit currently pending for malpractice or entered
into settlement from malpractice
7. is currently more than 30 days arrears for child support
8. has any impairment to cognitive, communicative, or physical ability to engage in
PT with skill/safety
9. has within the last 10 years, used alcohol, any illegal substance, or prescription
medications in ways that have impaired or limited ability to practice PT
10. has within the last 10 years been dx with or been tx for bipolar disorder,
schizophrenia, paranoia or other psychotic disorder that has impaired or limited the
ability to practice PT with skill/safety
11. whether applicant has violated any grounds for disciplinary action
12. attesting to truthfulness of the information provided
What must an applicant submit to the board? - ANSWER -a completed application
and the associated fee
($300 or $50 for duplicates)
What are the 5 reasons the board may deny a license or certificate to an applicant,
licensee or cert holder? - ANSWER -1. knowingly making a false statement or fact
required to be revealed in the initial, renewal or reinstatement application
2. committing fraud in the procurement of a license/cert
3. committing a felony, whether or not involving moral turpitude or a misdemeanor
involving moral turpitude
4. attempting to engage in conduct that subverts or undermines the integrity of the
examination or exam process
5. engaging in any conduct that would be considered a violation of 32-2044 (grounds
for disciplinary action)

ANSWER -1. recalled or memorized exam questions from or with a person/entity
2. failing to comply with all test center security procedures
