Jiffy Lube University
1. Which management resources did Jiffy Lube Utilize? Explain.

Human resources through the leadership training in Jiffy Lube helps demonstrate the
values of the company and the behavior that should be exemplified while leading in this
organization.
Physical resources by having virtual garages which help employees sharpen then skills
but also how effective and efficient they are on the job when interacting with customers.
Informational resources by educating employees on the most effective procedures. Also,
Jiffy Lube is using the same process to teach all employees which improves the overall
consistency.
Resources and Performance since performance is based on effective and efficient which
is the objective of the course. All employees are aware of the organizational goals (i.e
increasing oil sales) and know what they are working towards. They are evaluated on this
during the University course and are required to obtain a certain score to pass.

2. How does Jiffy Lube University develop interpersonal skills?

By going through the training, employees have the opportunity to experience how the
sale should be approached. Having the framework and foundation of a conversation will
only encourage confidence in the employees approach to making a sale which translates
positively to the customer. Employees can now develop a trust worthy relationship with
the customer and build upon it. The University sets all employees up for success since
they have the ability to understand and communicate effectively with the customers.
Also, the skills learned or sharpened at the University can also be beneficial with
employee interactions which is also beneficial to the company as a whole.

3. Explain how the management training contributes the four management functions;
planning, organizing, leading and controlling.

Planning – The employees are clearly aware of their objective to sell more specialty oil
when making a sale
Organization – Everyone on the team is aware of the role they play in reaching the
objective
Leading – Jiffy Lube University has a specific certificate geared towards leadership and
what type of communication they expect to reach organizational goals
Controlling – During employee training the skills they learn are applied to simulations for
what they would experience in the garage or on the sales floor. Awareness of what could
happen, provides the knowledge of what to look for to prevent losing a sale or how to

any sales position.

4. Does teaching a universal approach to sales help management or hurt management?
Explain your answer.

It depends how the employees apply what they learned on the job site. If the employees
are using their talking points to enrich the conversation with the customer while reaching
the objective of the store than it is extremely helpful. If the employee is now approaching
the sale rehearsed lacking interpersonal skill, then it is extremely hurtful to management.

5. What are the benefits to having Jiffy Lube University?

By having Jiffy Lube University, they are the ones providing the training to all
employees in various regions. Being the central source of knowledge gives them an
advantage of being consistent with management and sales in all locations. Also, exposing
employees on how to approach situations is proven to help the sales within the
organization. Knowledge is powerful in a continuous changing competitive environment
and Jiffy Lube is a step ahead by ensuring that knowledge is universal throughout all
locations.
