ASSIGNMENT 2 2026

UNIQUE NO. 754562
DUE DATE: 23 JUNE 2026

, 1.1 Scaffolding (Vygotsky)

1.1.1 Explanation of scaffolding and ZPD (4)

Scaffolding refers to the temporary support given by a teacher or more knowledgeable person to
help a learner complete a task they cannot do alone. The support is gradually removed as the
learner becomes more independent.

The Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) is the gap between what a learner can do
independently and what they can achieve with guidance from a teacher or peer.

1.1.2 Two ways the teacher can scaffold Thabo’s learning (4)

1. Step-by-step guidance in tasks
The teacher can break classroom activities into smaller, manageable steps and guide
Thabo through each step until he gains confidence to complete tasks independently.
2. Peer support (pairing with a capable classmate)
The teacher can pair Thabo with a supportive peer who can model tasks and assist him
during group work, helping him gradually participate more actively.

1.2 Psychosocial Development (Erikson)

1.2.1 Stage (2)

Thabo is in the Industry vs Inferiority stage.
