1.Magnesium sulfate 30 grams is mixed in 500 mf Lactated
Ringers.Order:infuse a maintenance dose of magnesium sulfate @ 4 grams/hour.How many ml/hr will the IV run?
Magnesium Sulfate; 30 grams in 500 ml lactate ringer
= 30/500 = 0.06 grams/ml Order; 4 grams/hr
= 4/0.06 (As the concentration is 0.06 grams/ml) = 66.666 ml/hr should run the IV
2.Begin a Pitocin infusion at 5 mu/min via IV pump for labor induction.
On hand is Pitocin 40units in 1000ml Lactated Ringers. How many ml/hr will the IV run?
8ml/hour (Pitocin infusion rate via IV pump = 5mu/min
Pitocin lactated ringers = 40 units = 5 mu / 40,000 milliunit X 1000mL
= 0.125 ml/min = multiply by 60 min = 0.125 x 60 ml/hr
= 8ml/hr
3.The nurse notes the patient's IV pump is set at 10ml/hr.
The IV bag holds 30 units of Pitocin mixed in 500ml of Lactated Ringers. How many mu/min is the client receiving?
Given that, the IV pump is at the flow of 10
ml / hr The 500 ml IV is diluted with 30 unit
of the drug. hence the 1 ml has 0.06 unit ( = 0.06)
Here the 1 hr the flow is 10 ml, it means 0.6 units per hour.
Hence for 1 hour the flow is 0,6 units, then for 1 minutes it would be 0.01 units.
Therefore the client is receiving 0,01 units per minute,, If we convert the unit into mu it would be 0.00001 mu
Therefore the answer is 0.00001 mu / mins.
