EAST END QUOTATION ANALYSIS
From some of the bars came the sound of West End is evil and uncivilised – drunkards

ragged mattresses better than those who are perfect but they are
dead, ragged = not perfect
He knew in what strange heavens they were Heaven they are suffering, hell they are
suffering, and what dull hells were teaching enjoying, juxtaposed – representing society –
them the secret of some new joy East End is like heaven (they suffer) and West
End is like hell (they enjoy)
